How do you find hope on a dark day?: Please write about any ways you have to find hope on a dark day.
Dark days will find us all. When the pain is high and painsomnia is in gear is when I am at risk for dark thoughts. I am fully aware of this though. In order to deal with this, I do all that I possibly can to prevent myself from going down that twisty, spiral of dark thoughts.
I find a really engrossing book to read and just bury myself in it.
I distract myself with blogging or creative writing. Blogging helps me work myself out of my emotions in a productive way. Creative writing is a different sort of outlet from my emotions as I funnel them into my story.
I will go to my online support group and make a post about how I feel so that I can get comfort from others who have felt the same thing… I think it is important to lean on people in a support group when you feel in that dark headspace.
If I can do nothing at all I will do as much as possible to get myself to sleep… nothing cures a mood like that better than sleep. Nothing is harder to accomplish in high pain.
And sometimes I just put a movie in the DVD player and curl up on the couch, snuggle in my blankets and zone out. Repeating ‘this too shall pass’ hoping that it does.
Dark thoughts are something I am at high risk for. It was in a night of dark thoughts that I tried to kill myself. The night I realized that there is a fine line between suicidal ideation and suicidal action. And I do all that I can to never approach that line again.
